Who We Are
Dr. Beryl Archer
Beryl started her science career investigating spiders aged 9 in her grandmother’s garden. She is a qualified microbiologist with a PhD in the immunology of rheumatoid arthritis. Beryl enjoys cross functional working having a diploma in marketing. She is a motivated business professional and enjoys translating science to creative business possibilities. She has worked in the personal care and pharmaceutical industry, in research, tactical and strategic roles for Colgate-Palmolive, Eli Lilly, Bristol Myers Squibb, Wellcome, Pfizer and Bayer for twenty years covering a wide range of therapeutic areas.
Beryl is a communicator having trained in non-violent commmunication (NVC) and sales communication. She is currently learning hakomi, an embodied form of psychotherapy as an approach to understanding relational communication. Beryl’s interests are science, innovation and communication. She has spoken at St. Andrews University on the challenges of innovation for women in science. She is passionate about science as a force for positive change in the world.
Dr. Harold Vandenburg
Harold has worked for over thirty years as an analytical and research chemist specialising in the use of supercritical and superheated water technologies. His most recent research has been on the extraction and scale up of novel ingredients from seaweeds for Alginor ASA, together with the design and scale of a process to produce recycled carbon fibres using his unique experience base.
Over the years Harold has developed an online monitoring device for process control joint funded by GSK and BNFL, has assisted in analytical work for patent defence for GSK. He has investigated the safety of the emergency blow down system on oil rigs, developed contamination reduction or “clean up” of high performance polymers for Victrex, created a bespoke superheated water system for the purification ethylene glycol for Ferring Pharmaceuticals and created a novel cosmetic ingredient for Marks and Spencer.
Errol Archer is a solicitor with over 25 years’ experience. He has worked in a ‘magic circle’ firm in the City of London, and has successfully acted for businesses and individuals, regulators and central government departments, including advising senior civil servants and government ministers. He has worked both in-house and in private practice with a particular expertise in regulatory and compliance.
Harris works for SCI Green Innovations Ltd as a management trainee. He has responsibilities which are cross functional and include gaining experience in basic research either by supporting other projects or working directly on his own. He is currently investigating the impregnation of materials and supporting research projects on algal extraction processes. His next projects include formulation chemistry for a new cosmetic range. Harris is adaptable and personable.
Harris is skilled in accountancy, data driven processes and strategy and also enjoys teamwork and has qualifications in teamwork and communication skills and personal development through adventurous activities. Harris was selected to shoot competitively for his local cadet group and was selected to travel to the Alps with a cross functional youth group from the three military services in the UK.
